24 Hours in Litchfield County, Connecticut

This past weekend, I had the joy of spending 24 hours in Litchfield County, Connecticut with my mom and sister.

Where is Litchfield County?

Litchfield County is located in the Northwest hills of Connecticut and conveniently located about 2 hours from Manhattan and a little over an hour from lower Fairfield County. The ride to Litchfield is straight up Route 7, and a picturesque ride the entire time. Litchfield its most known for it’s beautiful fall foliage, but there is a ton to do there- even in the summer. There are several towns with adorable downtown areas; Litchfield, Washington Depot, and New Milford to name a few. I haven’t visited this area of our state since I was a child, and I didn’t remember it being so beautiful and filled with cute shops and restaurants.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at the Litchfield Inn. I would describe the Inn as quaint with character, but an updated aesthetic throughout. The restaurant is currently closed for renovations, but our stay included a full breakfast buffet in the morning. It was delicious! We stayed in a room with two queen beds, and I was shocked at how spacious the room was.

The rate we received in the summer made it super affordable, and Litchfield is a great alternative to a summer beach trip.

Visiting the Vineyards. Shopping in Town, and the Spa

The Spa at Litchfield Hills is located less than a mile from the Inn. We visited the spa for massages, and it was absolutely glorious. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. My massage was wonderful! Later on in the day, we visited Haight-Brown Vineyards. They had live music, and we sat on the deck noshing on snacks and tasting their wines. They also have a full bar menu filled with delicious cocktails. There are a handful of other wineries in the area.

During our trip, we also had the chance to walk around downtown Litchfield and New Milford. I was impressed with the number of adorable coffee spots, shops, restaurants, and juice bars both towns had. There seemed to be farm stands everywhere with fresh produce. We truly can’t wait to go back this fall!

Dining in Litchfield

I was shocked at how many highly-rated restaurants Litchfield had to offer. Community Table and Arethusa Al Tovlo are the highest rated, hence the reason we had trouble getting reservations at both. We ended up eating at Saltwater Grill, and it was delicious. It was the perfect way to end our relaxing day.

Getting Around

The Uber-situation is a bit unreliable, but we were able to easily call for a cab once we finished at Haight-Brown. The cab driver only accepted cash, but after a quick stop at the ATM, we were ready for the entire evening. We had such a great time on our “girl’s night getaway”. We can’t wait to visit Litchfield again soon.
