Cleaning Routine Rehab

Cleaning Routine Rehab

Earlier today on Instagram stories, I was discussing my need for some cleaning routine rehab. I confessed to being a tried and true bleach-lover. I even love the way it smells. Being in a first-grade classroom for nearly a decade will do that to you. I try to believe that an essential oil cleaner could kill Norovirus, but I’m not 100% there yet.

Plans I Intend on Making and Why

The bottom-line is this- chemicals are rarely good. I think we can all agree on that, whether you’re a complete ‘Natural Nancy’ or not. Dousing our shower in bleach and then showering in it an hour later never seems like a great idea to me. Yet, I still find myself doing it every week. But, there is a global pandemic. As teachers, both Ben and I work in moderately high-risk environments. We wash our hands frequently, eat healthy, reduce stress, and get plenty of sleep. But, I’m not sure that is enough given all that is happening in the world.

I was doing a pretty good job cleaning up the products around our house last year, but then Covid hit. I couldn’t get my hands on the Clorox wipes fast enough. If someone told me it was safe to wipe fruits and veggies with them, I probably would have. Needless to say, I took a few steps away from cleaning things up this year. Like most of you, I have read tons of articles about the dangers of household toxins. I would never deny they are accurate. That being said, cleaning things up takes effort. Using bleach to scrub our tub is easy and works every time. Finding a toxin-free cleaner that does the same is a bit more challenging. It seems like everywhere I go someone is trying to get me to join an MLM and buy things. I don’t like that.

Despite all I mentioned above, I am going to make a better effort to clean safely in our house this year. There is no denying it will most likely be better for our health.

Some Toxin-Free Cleaning Options

  • Branch Basics: I like that these products are budget-friendly and easy to order. (No MLM or subscription required) The company is also founded by women- #girlpower.
  • Blueland: My friend sent me the Blueland website, and I loved learning more about the company. What sets these products apart is that they also have eco-friendly packaging. You buy single bottles and then refill them. They are a bit pricier, but I love that their packaging is 100% sustainable. You can subscribe and save, but it isn’t necessary.
  • Young Living: I really like Young Living products and used the Thieves cleaner on-and-off for a few years. It smells incredible, and I love what the company stands for. My best friend works for the company and swears that these products have changed her life.
  • Groove Collaborative: This is the coolest site! Groove only sells natural and safe household products. They carry a variety of brands, and everything ships directly to you. You can try it free for 60 days. After that, there is a $19.99 annual fee.

Thanks for reading. As always, I’m 100% a work in progress and never the expert! I invite your suggestions, ideas, and comments below or on social media.
