Finding a “pocket of pretty” in New Canaan isn’t hard to do, but out of all the beautiful areas in town, strolling down Forest Street is my favorite. Cava Wine Bar is located on the far end of Forest Street and is one of my favorite restaurants in town. Whether I’m there with girlfriends or enjoying date night at the bar with Ben, their food and wine-list is top-notch.
A few doors down is the New Canaan Diner. This place seriously puts other diners to shame as everything is incredible- from the fun 50’s-inspired decor to the menu. I was seriously worried that the place would go out of business when Ben moved and was no-longer walking distance.
Even if you aren’t in the mood for a big meal, there are other options on Forest Street. Embody Fitness Gourmet has several locations in Fairfield County, and their spot on Forest Street is my favorite. I find myself popping in for a smoothie or salad more often than I would like to admit.
I can’t mention Forest Street without talking about New Canaan Dance Academy. (Yeah, I know, I know- my soon-to-be-in-laws own the place) If you don’t trust my completely biased opinion, ask Foxy from Spruced and Styled as her littles have been dancing up a storm at NCDA for years.
NCDA is a fixture in the community, and every year I have many students who take class at NCDA. New Canaan Dance Academy is nothing short of a labor of love on the part of my in-laws. They pour their heart and souls into the studio, and it shows- in the productions, teachers who work there, and most importantly- the smiling faces leaving the studio every day of the week. They have classes for students ages 18 months to adult. So, if you’re thinking about taking up tap again, stop in and ask for Miss Elaine.
