I love watching old movies where the teacher is some middle-aged woman in a button-front dress wearing clog-like shoes as she walks around her classroom covered in chalk. This was never my goal as a teacher. I have to admit, many mornings as I roll out of bed at 5:30am, looking cute is the last thing on my mind. I work with first graders. I could wear a dress made of garbage bags, and they would probably still tell me it was beautiful. I have so many other things on my mind once the day starts. So, I’ve really tried the last few years. I’ve tried to put myself together a bit better most days. (Well, maybe it’s just some days.) I quickly found that the power is in the dress! Below are three of my go-to retailers for the perfect “Teacher Dress.”
Goodnight Macaroon
Why? I fell in love with Goodnight Macaroon a little over a year ago when a fellow blogger shared some of her favorite pieces from their summer collection. Honestly, every piece I’ve ordered from Goodnight Macaroon instantly becomes a favorite in my closet. I have a navy blue and gingham dress from last year that is to die for. It was such a big hit at school that I even had a few co-workers order the same one. Many of the Goodnight Macaroon pieces are versatile. I can wear these dresses in my classroom and then out to dinner with friends at night. They look good dressed down with flats, which is a must for a first grade teacher.
Loft
Why?My ‘Open House’ and ‘First Day of School’ dresses are usually from Loft. I love how long things last from Loft! The quality is great relative to the price-point. Another bonus, Loft is always having sales. I also recently started making use of the ‘buy online, pick-up in store’ option. It is the best of both worlds, I can shop at home, yet still get my items quickly.
J Crew Factory
Why?Their dresses are classic and preppy. They hold up well in the wash, but the price-point is low enough that it isn’t the end of the world when a little one accidentally gets me with a Dry Erase Marker. (By the way, that ink does not come out of clothing!) They are always having sales. If they aren’t offering free shipping, you can always get a flat rate of $5.00 on orders of $125 or more. These items arrive FAST.
