Being tan is fabulous, right? What is not fabulous is skin cancer. It doesn’t matter what your background is- skin cancer can happen to anyone. I’m Portuguese and rarely sunburn, yet I’ve had spots removed from the dermatologist recently. If you’re lucky and avoid skin cancer at any stage, you’ll certainly be left with sun damage. I’d rather age gracefully. The orange tanning-bed look from back in high-school isn’t gorgeous anymore.
Skin cancer is a topic I am particularly passionate about as my mother is currently going through a treatment for melanoma. My sister recently had MOHs surgery. I see the dermotologist annually to have my skin checked. Everyone should do the same. I love the feeling of being in the sun, but I refuse to go in the sun without suncreen- every single day. Sunscreen has to be reapplied every two hours. More importantly, when your skin gets red and slightly burned, you are damaging your skin. Period.
(((Hang on, while I climb down off my soapbox)))
Here are my reccomendations for face and body:
For the face- I use SuperGoop City Sunscreen Serum. It goes on sheer and gives my skin the perfect amount of moisture- and sun protection. I even put make-up over it some days.
For the body- I’ve used Neutrogena sun products for years. My favorite is the Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen. I am looking forward to trying their Hydroboost Water Gel Sunscreen as it is a new product.
Great post, and so true! I just had my annual check-up with the dermatologist and they had to do three biopsy’s, but fortunately the results didn’t turn up anything negative. Thanks for the suggestions, will definitely be picking up sunscreen at Target this afternoon!
Thanks for reading! It really is so crazy and scary. And the HydroBoost Sunscreen is incredible. I used it all week in Naples. So lightweight.
