When I was about nine years-old, I had a lot of trouble gaining weight. It was seriously challenging, and I even saw a nutritionist to help beef up my caloric intake. (Cue the eye roll.) If you’re still reading this, I no longer have that issue as my metabolism has clearly evened itself out. Ever since then, I’ve been the world’s biggest snacker. I find that eating many small meals tends to give me sustained energy and I just feel better overall.
I find morning snacking quite easy as I tend to go for a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. The afternoon slump is what really gets me! I finish teaching at 2:40 and tutor most afternoons. I’m often running to get to the gym for a 6pm class, and I need snacks that I can just throw in my bag.
I’m breaking down my favorite HEALTHY and EASY snacks! Click below to see the product websites.
- Nut butter and apple slices: If a knife is nowhere in sight, I just grab a Nuttzo packet and alternate between bites from the whole apple and a squeeze of the good stuff.)
- Raw almonds or unsalted cashews
- Cucumber slices and baba ghanoush: Humus tends to hurt my stomach, so I prefer this as a similar-tasting alternative
- Dried Fruit: Trader Joe’s Baby Bananas are ugly and smelly, but they taste SO delicious
- GoMacro or Vega Bars: I enjoy both, but GoMacro is my favorite. I can’t rave about these enough. They are delicious, filling, and nutritious.
- Love Beets: Their whole-peeled and prepared beets are my favorite. The white wine and balasmic flavor is my favorite for snacking.
- Siete Grainfree Tortillas and Homemade Salsa or Guacamole: I posted my favorite recipe on Instastories last week. In case you missed it, you can check it out here!
- Matcha Bar Bottled Drinks and Daily Greens Cold-Pressed Juices: Who doesn’t love a good matcha for a boost of energy? The apple-ginger is my favorite flavor. I buy both of these these at Whole Foods and feel that they are worth every penny.
- Smoothie: I usually blend almond milk, banana, spinach, strawberries, and Orgain protein powder in my Nutribullet. It keeps well in the refrigerator all day, and I can simply shake it up and drink in the afternoon.
- Homemade Kale Chips: These are easy to make on a Sunday and have as a snack all week. I take 5-6 large kale stalks and slice or tear them into bite-sized pieces. I drizzle them lightly with coconut oil and add seasalt. I dry them out in then oven for 15-20 minutes on 350 degrees.
And to wash it all down? I love La Croix or Trader Joe’s seltzer. I love GTS Kombucha and Health Aide Kombucha, too. I also enjoy an occasional afternoon cup of coffee, and Nutpods continues to my absolute favorite dairy-free creamer. If you have any snacks to share, please comment below. I’d love to hear your ideas, too!
xoxo Laura
So many things you mentioned, we love to snack on or have as meals as well! A new favorite of ours is Enlightened roasted bean crisps. They kinda sound odd, but are so good! Thanks for sharing.
